Random and Sundry

This week is like many others.
I'll be working on music for
Curtain Call, I'll probably get a couple scores that I'll never really have time to listen to. Last week it was The Adjustment Bureau by Thomas Newman (which is really bloody awesome by the way!), and Season of the Witch by Atli Örvarsson (which I haven't had a chance to get into yet).
Ben and I received our
IMDB scoring credits for Curtain Call... now only 10 episodes to go.
I keep daydreaming about the steampunk  book. I need to get on that, because I know how much
you want to read it too (okay. Was that too presumptuous?).
And to top it all off, the universe is giving me the finger.

More Fringe. Yay!

20110324-094401
Fringe has been picked up for the fourth season. According to blastr.com, Fox agreed to 22 episodes. So even though it moved to the Friday "death slot", it hasn't yet died. (although, I think I can guess it's fate in our parallel universe... Oh well, sucks for them!)
Speaking of Fringe, not to long until the release of Chris Tilton's score from season two. According to his facebook fan page, its supposed to be released April 5th. It's a great day!

My Super Secret Project (UPDATE)

img_22361
(UPDATE) Here is the link to the Youtube post of the trailer.
Last week Ben and I got a job to replace temp music on an upcoming trailer for a film called
High Road. The film is currently in post production. Here is the blurb on the production company's Projects page:
High Road
, by Matt Walsh, boasts such comedians on the project as Horatio Sanz, Rob Riggle, Abby Elliott, Lizzy Caplan, Kyle Gass, and Zach Woods. Matt Walsh calls the film a "stoner comedy," but with the incredible cast of comedians, who actually IMPROVISE the script, Northern Lights sees this "stoner comedy" as having more than the average niche film! A release date is planned for early 2011.
The film was directed by Matt Walsh (who was a member of Upright Citizen's Brigade. He also had roles in The Hangover, Due Date, and other things. Check out his IMDB page.)
The trailer is what the production company, Northern Lights Films, is using to find distributors. If they release it publicly, you can bet your sweet ass I will post it... or at least link to it.
The trailer was fun and challenging for us because it involved creating music that was similar to the temp music, but in genres that we weren't necessarily familiar with.
So hopefully, more to come very soon!

I'm Feeling Pretty Good

It's been 12 days since a doctor cut me open to play with my spine... and I feel pretty darn good.
Stitches have been removed, doctor says I've healed enough to begin sitting down again (as opposed to laying or standing), and most of all of the pre-surgery nerve pain has disappeared.
I couldn't have done it without the good vibes everyone sent my way... so thank you. Well, i probably could have because I didn't really do anything, but thank you anyway for sure!
So now that I'm back on my feet, er... my ass, I've got a very busy week coming up.
  • I have to submit the music for episode 3 of Curtain Call. The single is still available on CDBaby, iTunes, and Amazon. Go and download it, I promise it's worth it. If you've already downloaded it, what did you think? It would be awesome if you could rate and review it from whichever online service you used. I see that we got a good review on Amazon! Thanks Marcus Mann. Also, if you've seen the show and want to comment on it, there is a Curtain Call message board. Make sure you mention liking the music (wink wink).
  • Ben and I are working on a super top secret project. If it works out I hope to be writing about it this weekend. If it doesn't work out, I'll never mention it again. I'm very excited about it, but don't want to jinx it.
  • I'm meeting with my friend Dan to learn some website stuff. This'll be confusing and interesting.
  • Ben and I have scheduled our first official "1st 2nd draft meeting for our steampunk book". Very, very excited about the future of this book!
  • Starting today and over the next few weeks, I'm going to be studying like a madman to gain my contractor's license in Louisiana and Mississippi. Two days, multiple tests. This has nothing to do with music, but it's something that'll help pay the bills, and it helps out my dad.
So if you need me... I'll be around.
Unless this crazy mounted horseman actually impales my skull...

You should pop over to
the site and check it out! Leave feedback!
And don't forget, the single is still available on
CDBaby, iTunes, and Amazon. If you haven't downloaded the single yet, I forgive you, but go and do that now. And give some feedback... help me turn my ego into a monster!

A Song you can't get out of your head

At least, that's what I think will happen once your hear this song.
cassies-song-cover-art
Michael Stromenger's forthcoming murder-mystery web series Curtain Call, includes music and score written by Ben Larson and myself.
The first release from this project is the single from the pilot episode titled "Cassie's Song". The quote that Ben wrote up for CDBaby:
Haley Boyd sings a powerful rock ballad from the pilot episode of the web-series Curtain Call. Boyd plays the part of Cassie Sterling, a stage singer who is mysteriously gunned down in the middle of a performance. From the creators of Maelstrom - The Zombie Opera comes a blend of moody piano stylings, sweeping filmscore strings, a pinch of broadway panache, and the irresistible drive of rock guitars.
This will be the first pop song that I've released for public consumption, and I must say, I'm very proud of the job we've done. The tune is really catchy, and the music pretty much just rocks (I'm not usually so conceited, but I feel good about this song!) I know for a fact that there's been many times where my wife gets a little crazy because she gets the tune stuck in her head.
So now that we've written and finally released this song, it's now up to you to consume and comment. If you feel okay with parting from one of your hard earned dollars, then head on over to
cdbaby, iTunes, or Amazon to purchase this single. If you end up liking it, I would appreciate you leaving feedback on whatever site you bought it from.
This was also the first thing that we worked on, with Ben setting the lyrics that Mike wrote. After the initial song was done being written, I went back through and orchestrated it, and also, added the drums and guitar. The whole song project was done in Logic Studio.
The show is set for release on March 9th, so stay tuned for even more music!
